(PLA-THER) DESIGN OF ECOLOGICAL BITUMINOUS EMULSIONS

Use of plastic waste for the manufacture of bituminous emulsions. Application to adhesion irrigation.

The great increase in traffic volume and the growing importance of environmental protection has required the development and creation of increasingly innovative and sustainable road construction materials. The main fields of innovation in roads, from the point of view of infrastructure, are increasingly focused on the use of sustainable materials and technologies, in response to growing environmental awareness.

The idea of using plastic waste is not new. Even so, this waste continues to grow and, therefore, it is of interest to study the ability to transform part of this waste and byproducts into additives and modifiers that improve the behavior and increase the performance of the pavements.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this project is the formulation of bituminous emulsions with plastics from industrial waste intended for adhesion risks that represent an improvement in some of the properties required for this type of emulsion, compared to conventional emulsions and at a competitive production cost. By integrating this new adhesion irrigation into the layer systems of bituminous mixtures, the aim is to optimize and extend the useful life of the pavement, resulting in savings in terms of maintenance and natural resources since a source of waste with recovery interest will be used.
